Song: Dummy Song, The
“The Dummy Song” was written by Lew Brown, Billy Rose and Ray Henderson in 1925. Twenty-eight years later, jazz pioneer Louis Armstrong recorded this novelty number, and the song promptly climbed into the Top 40. Armstrong’s recording appears in both the film and on the soundtrack of noted director/writer Nora Ephron’s 1998 comedy You’ve Got Mail. Louis Armstrong has been named the most important popular musician of the last thousand years, according to a noted, recent book entitled 1000 Years, 1000 People: Ranking the Men and Women Who Shaped the Millennium.
