Brenda Shannon Greene, who began her singing career at New York University, became famous as simply "Shannon" in November 1983 thanks to her dance hit LET THE MUSIC PLAY. The tune, written by Chris Barbosa and Ed Chisolm, climbed to No. 8 on the pop charts early the following year and was the No.1 dance record for six weeks. This success was repeated in most European countries. In 1993 Carroll Thompson recorded a version that was used in the legendary movie "The Crying Game." And in 1996 Mary Kiani recorded a version that topped the dance charts in in the UK.
