Three separate versions of “The Old Spinning Wheel” have been Top 10 hits since this song was introduced by British pianist/bandleader Ray Noble in 1933. Noble’s version stayed at No. 1 for three weeks; Victor Young’s version also went to No. 10 early in 1934. The song was written by Billy Hill, who penned many other classics for Shapiro Bernstein including “The Glory of Love” and “Empty Saddles.” “The Old Spinning Wheel” was also recorded by the Ink Spots and vocalist Emil Velasco.
