Song: Shake That Thing

Written by Charlie Jackson

"Shake That Thing" was written by blues banjo player "Papa" Charlie Jackson, who recorded the song in 1925. Later that year, blues singer Ethel Waters recorded another notable version of the song. "Shake That Thing" has also been recorded by singer/guitarist Taj Mahal, Kid Ory and his Creole Jazz Band, as well as an early incarnation of the Grateful Dead (Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir and Pigpen) under the moniker of Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions.
