SIDE BY SIDE songwriter Harry Woods` salute to the bond of friendship, was first published in 1927 and four versions of the song hit the record charts later that year. The most notable was by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra, the most popular band of the pre-swing era. The song was revived in 1953 by Kay Starr, who took the tune to Number 3. This infectious tune has also been recorded by stars as diverse as Ray Charles, Steve Lawrence and Kate Smith.
