Song: They Call Me Sister Honky Tonk
Blonde bombshell Mae West launched her second film (I'm No Angel) with her salty delivery of They Call Me Sister Honky-Tonk. Harvey Brooks, Gladys DuBois and Ben Ellison wrote the song especially for West, and this trio of writers also penned the well received title song from the movie. Cast as a carnival dancer in a sideshow act, West's raucous performance of They Call Me Sister Honky-Tonk was one of her finest. I'm No Angel was shot in 1933 for Paramount and also featured superstar Cary Grant. Mae West's recording of They Call Me Sister Honky-Tonk is available on several popular compilations, including Hollywood Sings: Golden Voices From The Silver Screen. The song also appears on the VHS and DVD releases of I'm No Angel.
