Song: Walk On The Wild Side
In the spring of 2000, jazz/R&B/gospel vocal group Take 6 released a remarkable live recording of the Shapiro Bernstein classic WALK ON THE WILD SIDE. Recorded in Tokyo at the Blue Note, this performance captures the group's unique, intricate vocal arrangements. Other hit recordings of this song include those by R&B singer Brook Benton (No. 42/1962) and jazz organist Jimmy Smith (No. 4-R&B/1962). The soundtrack album for the film “Walk On The Wild Side” climbed inito the Top 40 in 1962. The lyrics for the title song were penned by legendary lyricist Mack David, whose other hits include "La Vie En Rose," "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" and "This Is It," the theme song for the Bugs Bunny cartoons. Elmer Bernstein, one of the giant of film music, composed the score. Bernstein's sweeping themes have accompanied some of Hollywood's greatest movies, including "The Man With The Golden Arm"," Hawaii" and "To Kill a Mockingbird." His provacative jazz motifs for “Walk On The Wild Side” helped that movie become a classic. The original soundtrack album of "Walk on the Wild Side" is available on Mainstream Records.
