Song: Cherokee

Written by Ray Noble

Although written by British bandleader Ray Noble, CHEROKEE became a hit for, and the theme of American tenor saxophonist Charlie Barnet and His Orchestra. The swinging Barnet recording climbed to No. 15 in the fall of 1939. Later the tune was also covered by the big bands of Harry James and Duke Ellington. Another outstanding performance of this classic jazz number was recorded by saxophonist Earl Bostic in 1952.
